Advisory: Join UAW Leaders & Members at Endorsement Event with Labor Champion Mary Waters for Congress

Detroit, MI—With more than 42,000 active and retired members in Michigan’s 13th Congressional district, the United Auto Workers is throwing its substantial support behind Mary D. Waters, an at-large member of the Detroit City Council and a champion for working class issues.

WHO: UAW members from UAW's Region 1 and Region 1A, UAW Region 1 Director LaShawn English, UAW Region 1A Director Laura Dickerson, Detroit Councilwoman and MI-13 Candidate Mary Waters

WHAT: Event in support of UAW endorsed candidate Mary Waters

WHERE: UAW Region 1A, 9650 S. Telegraph Rd., Taylor, MI 48180

WHEN: Thursday, July 25 at 1 p.m. ET

WHY: UAW members are backing candidates like Mary Waters who are ready to Stand Up for the working class, just as we stood up to corporate greed last fall during the historic Stand Up Strike against the Big Three automakers.

“UAW members want someone in Congress who's in their corner and passing policies that lead to a better life. Councilwoman Waters is a fighter for the working class with deep roots with the UAW. Right now, this district is represented by a millionaire who bought his way into office. Our members want someone who will stand up to corporate greed, not benefit from it.”
--Laura Dickerson, UAW Region 1A Director

“Councilwoman Waters knows what it takes to win for the working class of Detroit, and she will do the same in Congress. She’s been a part of the UAW family as an original organizer at Blue Cross Blue Shield. We’re sending her to Washington to keep up the fight for the working class, not the billionaires.”
--LaShawn English, UAW Region 1 Director
