DETROIT – In the lead up to its biggest GOTV weekend in decades, the UAW is holding a high-energy rally for the working class this Friday to fire up union members and allies in a final push to get voters to the polls to elect Kamala Harris and other working-class champions.
WHO: UAW President Shawn Fain, Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Debbie Dingell, Michigan Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, and other Michigan community and political allies
WHAT: Rally for the working class GOTV weekend kickoff with UAW members
WHERE: Solidarity House, 8000 E. Jefferson, Detroit, MI, 48124
WHEN: Friday, November 1 at 5:30 p.m.
In August, the UAW launched one of its most ambitious political programs in decades, mobilizing members online, at worksites, and door-to-door to reach members, retirees, and their families around a pro-worker, anti-corporate greed agenda.
With over 316,000 active and retired members in Michigan, the UAW is the state’s largest working-class political force. A recent internal survey across these states shows Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump by 22 points among UAW members and member households, with her lead growing to 29 points among members who heard from the UAW about the election. Importantly, Harris now holds a five-point lead among white UAW members without a college degree—a demographic that has leaned towards Trump in past elections.
The UAW’s 2023 Stand Up strike inspired this winning strategy: by sharing the facts, uniting the working class, and putting members in leadership, the “Stand Up, Speak Up, Show Up” campaign aims to mobilize a mass effort to counter corporate interests at the polls.
