Statement by UAW Region 9A Julie Kushner
Today in New York City Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed landmark legislation strengthening the rights of working men and women in New York State. The law, in anticipation of the pending Supreme Court case Janus vs. AFSCME, increases access to and protects union membership in New York's public-sector workplaces.
“Unions help keep our middle class strong, our economies growing, and our families secure. New Yorkers have taken hit after hit from the federal government, and each time, Governor Cuomo has stepped up and fought to protect us. This time is no different,” stated Julie Kushner UAW Region 9A Director, “With this bill signing, Governor Cuomo has once again thwarted a direct attack against middle-class families in New York by keeping our unions strong and protecting laborers from losing their voice, their benefits, and their rights.”
