DETROIT – As auto tariffs add pressure on automakers to expand U.S.-based manufacturing, UAW members are calling on Stellantis to fully utilize the excess capacity at its American plants. Doing so would quickly bring thousands of good auto jobs back to Michigan.

Stellantis has an opportunity to create thousands of good-paying auto jobs in Michigan. Right now, facilities like Trenton Engine, Warren Truck, and the Detroit Assembly Complex are operating far below capacity. If the company is serious about shifting production to the U.S., it's already positioned to do so—especially in Southeast Michigan.
But instead of investing in American jobs, Stellantis has responded to new auto tariffs by sending lobbyists to Washington, D.C., to pressure the Trump Administration to roll back the policy in favor of their corporate agenda. Meanwhile, more than 3,000 Stellantis workers remain indefinitely laid off—and yet the company’s Board of Directors still found $2.6 billion to distribute to shareholders in dividends.
UAW members plan to send a clear message: Stellantis can either support American workers and communities or continue putting Wall Street profits ahead of the people who build their vehicles.
