RALLY: Baco Workers, Labor Champions Including Comptroller Lander, Borough President Gibson and Other Electeds to Call for Unfairly Terminated Worker to Be Reinstated at Bronx Parts Manufacturer

THE BRONX – Workers seeking to form a union at Baco Enterprises in the Bronx will join civic and elected leaders including Comptroller Brad Lander and Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and other elected officials at a rally in front of the construction materials fabricator. The group is seeking to call out the company following the unlawful termination of a worker who sought to organize with his coworkers and form a union with UAW Local 259.

Calling attention to the country’s broken labor laws, rally attendees will demand the company to reinstate the worker, make him whole with back pay, and recognize the union or agree to be neutral as workers exercise their right to a union election free from intimidation and harassment.

On the heels of the UAW’s historic Stand Up Strike and record contracts with the Big Three automakers, tens of thousands of workers across the country like those at Baco Enterprises continue organizing to join the UAW and are standing up for fair pay, cost of living adjustments (COLA), and a better future for the working class.

WHAT:  Rally to reinstate terminated worker at Baco Enterprises
WHEN:  9:30 am on Tuesday, August 6
WHERE:  Baco Enterprises Inc., 1190 Longwood Ave Bronx, NY 10474
WHO:  UAW Local 259 President Brian Schneck

  • Comptroller Brad Lander
  • Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson

Background:
Unions improve pay and working conditions for all workers, especially workers of color. The union advantage is even greater for people of color, women, immigrants, and others who have confronted workplace discrimination. Union contracts are a potent weapon against unequal pay and structural racism because they establish fair and transparent systems for hiring and firing, wages and more. Black, Latino and women workers are paid 26%, 39.2% and 23.8% more, respectively, when they belong to a union. As of 2021, there were around 623,000 union members in New York City's five boroughs.
