Detroit — On Thursday, April 10 at 6:00 p.m., UAW President Shawn Fain will address UAW rank-and-file members in a virtual livestream, providing a deep dive on the state of the auto industry and calling for an end to the free trade policies that have gutted manufacturing and devastated working-class communities for decades. He will outline the union’s position prioritizing fair wages, job security, and stronger labor rights across borders.
Fain will condemn attacks on higher education, free speech, and NIH funding — attacks that corrode fundamental freedoms and deal a gut punch to scientific progress.
He will emphasize that such attacks undermine efforts to create good jobs in the U.S. and highlight the need to pair policies — such as tariffs aimed at ending the global race to the bottom — with measures that secure workers’ rights. These include strengthening the National Labor Relations Board, protecting Social Security benefits to ensure a decent retirement, expanding access to health care through Medicare and Medicaid, and safeguarding workers' dignity both on and off the job.
The media will be invited to join the livestream on the UAW’s YouTube channel or social media accounts (Youtube, Facebook or Twitter).
WHO: UAW President Shawn Fain
WHAT: Livestream on our economy, our country, and our union
WHERE: Livestream on UAW YouTube, social media (Youtube, Facebook, Twitter)
WHEN: Thursday, April 10 at 6:00pm ET
The UAW has applauded clear, aggressive action to bring back good, union auto jobs and a swift end the free trade disaster that has devastated the working class.
The union has called for the immediate renegotiation of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which has perpetuated NAFTA’s harmful effects by allowing automakers to offshore U.S. jobs and drive a race to the bottom.
