Volkswagen Workers to Rally at 1:30 PM in Chattanooga in Response to Illegal Union-Busting Tactics

Chattanooga, TN – Volkswagen workers at the Chattanooga plant will rally today at 1:30 pm to protest the company’s illegal and aggressive anti-union tactics, including its recent attempt to buy off workers and ram through job cuts without negotiating with their union, as required by U.S. law.

This comes on the heels of the United Auto Workers (UAW) filing federal labor charges against Volkswagen for violating labor laws by announcing plans to cut shifts and make major operational changes without first bargaining with the union. Despite making over $20 billion in profits in 2024 and being the second most profitable automaker in the world, Volkswagen is attacking American jobs instead of negotiating a fair contract for its 4,000 Chattanooga autoworkers.

“Nearly a year ago, thousands of Volkswagen workers in Chattanooga voted to join the UAW, to win the respect and dignified life that union autoworkers at the Big Three have enjoyed for generations,” said UAW President Shawn Fain. “Instead of coming to a fair agreement for their American autoworkers in Tennessee, Volkswagen is choosing to attack American auto jobs."

The rally will bring together Volkswagen workers from across the plant demanding that the company stop its union-busting campaign and negotiate in good faith. Workers are standing up to protect their jobs, their rights, and the future of American autoworkers.

Event Details:

WHERE: Roundabout Outside Volkswagen Chattanooga Plant
WHEN: 1:30 pm ET on 3/13/25
SPEAKERS: Volkswagen Workers

The UAW has called on elected officials to hold Volkswagen accountable for its anti-union, anti-worker, and anti-American actions, including attempts to lay off workers just days before expected auto tariffs take effect.

“The 4,000 autoworkers in Chattanooga deserve better. America deserves better,” said Fain. “And the UAW is going to fight like hell to deliver for Chattanooga, for Volkswagen autoworkers, and for the whole working class.”
